Africa has more refugees than any other continent. Some have fled from war, some from natural disasters, and many from both. This study is based partly on a field study to Botswana, encompassing interviews with different institutions and persons involved in refugee work, and archive work in that country. It is an unusually detailed and painstaking effort to examine the legal framwork, and the legal problems invovled in the refugee movements. Some of the problems discussed are the relationship between national law and international conventions concerning refugees, the determination of refugee status, the freedom of movement of the refugees, their right to work, and the question of refugees' right to acquire citizenship.
