The Pan-African Conference on the Situation of Refugees in Africa was held in Arusha, Tanzania, between 7 and 17 May, 1979. It was attended by representatives and observers from 38 African countries, 5 African liberation movements, 20 non-governmental organizations and refugee-serving agencies. The recommendations of the Conference were presented to the 33rd Meeting of the OAU Council of Ministers in Monrovia, Liberia, between 6 and 20 July, 1979. Following the adoption of these recommendations by the Council of Ministres, they were subsequently adopted by the OAU Summit Meeting of Heads of States and Governments. This book contains the recommendations of the Pan-African Refugee Conference in Arusha and the Resolutions adopted by the OAU Council of Ministers.
